Day 13...Schliersee, Lost in translation

Being Sunday, nothing is open here in Schliersee so what to do? One thing that raises a question about nobody working on Sundays as this is the day of rest. If that is the case, why are the preachers and priest working? Just one of the many contradictions that I find in religions. The beautiful village here in the mountains sits at the edge of a lake, Schliersee Lake. There is a trail around the lake for a nice walk, run or biking. The trail around the lake is 7 kilometers, roughly 4.4 miles. We walked around the lake, it was super ass cold. 9.4 degrees Celsius or 47 degrees Fahrenheit. The views were absolutely gorgeous, the mountains surrounding the lake, and the fall colors blanketing the sides of the mountains. A couple days ago it had snowed, and from the left over snow patches it was a nice snow fall. Around the lake there are creeks from the snow run off, some of which had been built up with concrete to create moss covered falls, quite nice.

One point we came upon another jumbo chess board, we were going to play but one of the queens was missing, suppose one of us could have stood in her place. The homes surrounding the lake put most homes surrounding Lake Tahoe to shame. Although, we did find an area that probably had one of the most expensive lake front properties for a trailer park. We were just laughing, of course the park was on the back side of the lake, hmmm purposely you think? One thing that I have noticed since we arrived in Europe, there does not seem to be a leash law or if there is nobody is obeying it. I think it is great to be able to walk your dog off leash, assuming they are not killers or bad tempered. My favorite of course is the sign that we found on the trail, we need these back in the states.

After our wonderful walk, it was time to eat, but where all of the menus are in German. Well, we chose one, had a beer garden out front, though it was a little to cold to sit outside we walked in and who should greet us, Helga. Not sure if that was here name, but she looked liked her name could have been Helga. Typical German lady, we was older in a skirt and apron, grey hair and round eye glasses. Not feminine at all, but she was super nice and was quite patient with us. Being in a small village, not many locals or some German tourist do not speak English and if they do, very little. We find a table open the menu and wonder if we should walk our or not. Helga came buy spoke to us in German and we must have looked like two guys with a look of panic. The only thing I knew to do was just order beer, again nothing made any sense, and so I ordered ‘ zwei Russens, bitte’ (2 Russens, please). She brought back the beers and took a sip and this beer is pretty much a Radler. Not to bad, definitely a beer you can down. Radler or Shandy, is a pilsner mixed with sweet lemonade or sprite. Pretty good and refreshing. Alx and I were nervously looking through our translation book in the culinary section trying to figure out what every thing is and means. Again, Helga comes to take our order, because we were a little nervous we ordered the first entrees that we had translated.
Now we sit and wait, what are we going to eat, as most of people know, we both are pretty picky eaters. My plate, buttered bread, with thinly sliced ham over it with a fried egg on top. Not bad, I really enjoyed it. Alx’s plate, egg noodles with chunks of ham and broccoli and a creamy sauce on the side.

The resort did a mini Oktoberfest for dinner, a liter of beer, a liter of water, the German buffet with desert all for $26 Euro, not bad. Served on the menu: bologna meat loaf (that is what it tasted like), huge pieces of pork leg, wurst’, halves of small chickens and the traditional side dishes. The food was absolutely yummy, although I did not have the pork as it looked like something form Alien. Alx and I had almost three and a half liters of beer, so you can imagine how lit we were. Past 2 am in the morning, it was time for bed.

P.S. We are the only gays in the village.

I'm glad you liked the "Russian" (Russn', Wheat beer and Sprite) and "Strammer Max" (Bread with ham and Egg. I hope you had some German Brezn! If not you HAVE to try before you leave.
