Day 19...Disneyland
Ok so not really Disneyland, but Walt Disney did use the Neuschwanstein Castle for the idea of Sleeping Beuaty's Castle at Disneyland. Located in the town of Fussen, "Mad" King Ludwig had this castle built. It took several years to build from but he only lived in the castle for less than two hundred days. The elaborate decor of the castle, was partially inspired by the Versaille Palace. Since the Mad Queen himself (in my opinion, he was a Queen) ran out of money the castle was never fully complete. There are over 60 rooms in this castle, only 16 of them are complete. These sixteen rooms are so meticously done, with details in each wall painting to the several swans that are found in the salon. The wall paintings were inspired by the operas of Richard Wagner, to which the castle was also dedicated to. The pictures below of the rooms themselves are not mine as they do not allow photoghraphy inside the castle, but the rest of the photos are mine. The airial shot (top picture) is also not mine, but used this to show you how very Disneyland it looks.
Lower Hall
Throne Room
Ludwigs Bedroom
The Oratory, Ludwigs own private chapel.
Dressing Room
Salon
Conservatory
Grotto
Singers Hall, actual concerts are held here in during September.
Dining Room
And my favorite room of all, the kitchen. Of course most of you are wondering why the throne room was not my favorite. Well it would have been if the damn throne was there. Where would I have sat?
The next are my photos of Neuschwanstein
Also located in the town of Fussen is Hohenschwangau, home of Prince Maximillian, Ludwigs father. We were not able to go inside due to time limits, but we did visit the grounds. Not as elaborate as Neuschwansteing, but still a beautiful castle.
This part of our trip was one of our favorites places to visit.
