Well, it may or may not be news to you but at 5:30 this morning I was awoken to this noise of the remotes falling off my bed side table, only to look over in the morning darkness and bam square in the mouth, Riles nose hits me. He is trying to get in our bed, and guess what? Riley is not allowed in our bed. He is trying to get in the bed, well after many "no Riley, OFF!!!" he got in the bed, nuzzled his way in and pushed his head underneath our pillows. Still asleep and some what freaked out tell Al-x something his wrong, I run down stairs because something is not right. Thinking that maybe he got into something or he messed in the house. Running around turning on the living and dining room lights, waiting for those damn CFL low energy lights to slowly turn on, I search to find nothing wrong or out of the ordinary. I go upstairs and try to get Riley out of the bed. Now realizing there is something really wrong, something has gotten to him. We figure, ok lets get his blanket and spread it out on our bed so that way he can lie on it so he can sleep with us. We get him out of bed, and now his hind quarters and tail are so tucked in that they are practically under his front legs. I take him outside and he starts to go pee, Whew!!! I think to myself, he had to go potty.
Within seconds, he bolts and is gone. I have no shoes on and in my PJ bottoms only, I have to get some shoes. Run back out side and Riley is nowhere to be found. Vanished. We are no out looking for him, can not find him. We are now in panic mode and hop in the car looking frantically trying no to yell and wake up the neighborhood and instead use a whistle that only Riley know that you better get your ass here. Nothing, back to the house out on foot again, separately. Meet back at the house and nothing, back in the cars again. Back to the house, nothing. Start getting making a lost dog claim through the city, download the lost pet posters, filled out and down to KINKO's to make copies. Back to the house, still nothing. Riley has not returned. We have been leaving the garage open just enough for him to crawl in. Run upstairs, and nothing. We go out, post all the posters while still out looking for him. Back to the house, nothing. Check email account for my lost dog claim, nothing. Franctically we head out separate again thinking the worst. Alx calls me and ask' where are you I am coming to pick you up. We should probably go to the Santa Clara Humane Society, since we only made a claim with the SJHS, which is closed on Mondays. Picks me up and no Riley at the humane society, talk to Dan Blair, have you checked your old home. Why no we didn't, so far away, why would he do that. "Stranger things have happened" he said.
We head off to our home and to see if by chance the SJ Animal Shelter, no chance either way. Back home we go and still lost hopes, We have been searching for Riley pretty much since 5:30 am and now it is 3:30 pm and we do not know what else to do. I walked outside to hope that he has returned to the same place he was before he bolted. Few minutes later, Alx says let go pick up Riley. At first I was Alx don't you dare toy with me, "no no, I'm serious that guy just called.
Riley was at this elder ladies home laying in her front yard, pretty much since this morning. Being not comfortable, she left Riley out there and waited for her son to get home to take care of him. He called us, and little short of a 1/2 mile we picked up Riley and brought him home. If dogs could cry, I know he was crying inside as Alx and I were both in tears going to pick him up. OMG, we found him!!!!!! Yes we have found Riley and home sleeping safely. We did take him to the vet, he is A-OK, but something really spooked him, so not sure what it was. So he does not get to go in and outside during the night anymore, :( sucks.
